In celebration of Peroni’s new tipple, Peroni Ambra, Somerset House is hosting The Terrace this summer. Running from April to September, the summer-long pop-up aims to transport visitors to the rural Chinotto orchard in Italy by transforming the open-air terrace overlooking the Thames with citrus trees, a leafy canopy, warm orange lighting and a sweeping white bar stocked full of Peroni Ambra. DJ sets and a programme of Italian-inspired events bring the place to life while food comes in the form of a bespoke cicchetti menu.
I went along to the launch night and, with music blaring, traditional stone baked pizzas and sweeping views of London, I must say it’s the perfect spot for a summer tipple or two. As for Peroni Ambra, however, the jury is still out. It was light, refreshing and beautifully served – over a bed of ice with an orange garnish – but, fitting somewhere between a beer and a cocktail, I’m not sure when I would order one.
The Terrace opens to the public on 1st April 2017 and is open until the end of September. Entry is free and it is open Monday to Saturday 12pm-12am and Sunday 12pm-6pm.
